WE HAVE GRAPES. Our grapes! 🍇 After weeks of pick WE HAVE GRAPES. Our grapes! 🍇
After weeks of picking for everyone else while still feeling that another vintage for us wouldn't surely come together … it’s actually happening.

Farmer & The Scientist 2.0 is underway.

These ones went to Rosé, and honestly, just seeing them in the bins is akin to the excitement of our very vintage.

We’ve got a mountain to climb - the good news is we are climbing it.

There’s been some incredible support and a few miracles behind the scenes that made this possible (we’ll share those stories soon, and they deserve to be told properly).
For now, we’re just deeply grateful to be doing the thing we love again.

 #harcourtfire #heathcotewines #KeepOnFarming
You know we had started picking for our customers You know we had started picking for our customers in the vineyard, but what you don’t know is these awesome gals generously donated their time to come and help us get 9 tonnes of grapes ✂️ 🍇 harvested! Knowing things are tight here this year after the fire, they offered, coordinated as a group, travelled together, and even brought along women who had never met us. We had great fun, but gosh, they worked hard in the heat and powered through to the very last bin. How awesome is that ❤️🍷
Our Vintage has officially opened - we have starte Our Vintage has officially opened - we have started picking and have harvested some Fiano & Shiraz. We have another Fiano pick (customers like different levels of ripeness), Grenache for Rose customers & a later Grenache pick for table red, then Tempranillo. The rain we have had has caused some challenges with sugar levels dropping and the threat of berry splitting and disease. The grapes have bounced back well and so far we are in the clear and hoping for a nice run to the end. As farmers we know the score - some vintages are harder than others but we are hopeful this one will continue to go well...
We have been receiving lots of your cheering on an We have been receiving lots of your cheering on and messages of support and people have even asked us to consider the GoFund-me route.

We struggle big-time to accept help (something we are working on) but we do have some wines stocks still available, so buying our wines will be our version of a fundraiser for now.

We have updated the the website to reflect remaining stock and if your selections make it to the cart.... we can fill your order.
If you want to support us, let us repay you with some delicious wines. www.farmerandthescientist.com

Update: We have been working on deciding what to do from here and looking at our possibilities for rebuilding our business ... We have been under the pump lately trying to plan it all out with the ticking clock of vintage racing along - a rebuild requires wines 🍾 and $ and the grapes 🍇 wont wait for us to find the solution - we either do this vintage or miss the boat by dragging out a long journey back even further. Either way we are still Farmers and have a grape crop to deliver so we plan on as always, delivering the best grapes possible for the winemakers that put their trust in us.

We love you for your support as always! Jess and Brian xx
Each year the launch of vintage is less of a ribbo Each year the launch of vintage is less of a ribbon cutting and more of a 'holy bird crap is it really go time!' marked ceremonially by purple poop on the bonnet 🐦🍇 we survived our first V26 challenge thanks to mineral sunscreen we have been deploying throughout the recent heatwaves (white dotty coverage seen in photo 2). Fingers crossed that's done now as repetitive vine stress does get a little tricky to manage. This year, as usual, we will be supplying around half a dozen wineries with grapes and it is shaping up to be a fast and compressed vintage - but you know what they say - a quick labour is a good labour right?!! 😅🥴😬
THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR THE MESSAGES OF LOVE & SUPP THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR THE MESSAGES OF LOVE & SUPPORT 💚So I have this beautiful jar the kids filled with lovely messages and gifted to me a couple of years back. It’s here on my desk but you know how it goes - you get busy and forget it’s there. One of my wise little white Yoda’s comes in just now and says Mum do you need a hug and also I have an idea…you should get a message from your jar. 🫙 So I dug in and got this one…how smart are kids! They just get stuff 💚 So wise they are 🧘🏻‍♀️today we are focused on the good stuff and that is all the messages of support you guys have sent 💚and also, we have Kung Fu today at 3 🥋😁

I’m sorry we haven’t been able to reply to you all. For those asking how to and if theres any wine to buy - yes we do (Note, Our main Shiraz we only have some left in cleanskin form but it will taste the same if you close your eyes) and the others have stock limits set so if your order goes through we can fill it, otherwise the site will let you know we are out 😉
We want to say we are aware of the pain and losses We want to say we are aware of the pain and losses from fires that have devastated communities far and wide, with the Harcourt Coolstore being part of a broader tragedy. We had stored most of our wine at the facility. The value lost there goes beyond dollars. The fires took stock that can’t be replaced, like our multiple trophy winning Tempranillo, peoples museum vintages, producer's entire stocks, and the list goes on. It means so many things to people, out of respect, we wouldn't attempt to quantify it. For us, the time spent growing and crafting wine to selling stage is measured in years, not months. The fire took so much more. Its the years that feel lost, the weekends, the missed holidays, the better parts of your life given to a business that for some, will no longer operate. The loss of stock for us is immense and we are unsure we can come back from this. We also ask ourselves, if there was a way, do we have the heart to start again? We take comfort in remembering to be proud - we started in 2013 with 0$, borrowed everything and managed to make a great local range that did make people happy, with the bonus of some great recognition nationally. Making wine that made people happy was exactly what we set out to do, and we nailed it. We are proud we didn’t let the business change us even though we could have turned into grumpy shits. We are proud of focusing on people and not making everything about business. We were honest and fair, paid our bills on time and the longer we did this, the more we realised it was a rare thing, and that's the stuff we can keep if we finish up. It is a comfort to us now. We have shared the whole thing with our kids, and set a pretty good example. The joys, achievements, the shit bits, the fights, the wins, and the stuff that nearly flattened us, in-fact, made us better people, a better team, and infinitely stronger. We know the things that really matter in this life, and we have gained a lot along the way. Thank you sincerely to everyone that has been a part of it. please know whatever we decide we will be ok. Book week on Monday where we sent two Bluey grannies to school complete with grabber claw, beans & coins 😅. So #flannoforafarmer day was a nice easy one - I simply got dressed 😀 Charlie on the other hand was more of a ‘process’ where she needed to go through her everyday choices … unicorn, princess, fairy or unicorn-princess-fairy.

I hope the awareness of this day continues to grow and we will be behind it every time - while we know firsthand the challenges of farming - here’s what I didn’t realise…

If the exploring part of that sounds appealing - Heathcote is turning it on this long weekend for Heathcote on Show. All Cellar Doors are open and celebrating the good things in life...we will be in the main street (Heathcote RSL) providing wine tastings all long weekend.

Having a science background you can guess I love t Having a science background you can guess I love to review and reflect on pretty much everything - what went well, what can we improve on? These photos of the 24' vintage reminded me just how crazy it was. In 14 vintages I've never seen fruit undergo final ripening that fast! It was like being shot out of a canon organising logistics of our own fruit intake and the winemakers we grow for. Every vintage is so different and 2024 was a great one to challenge us and provide a few ideas on what we might put in place for next time. They say summer bodies are made in winter - well you cant plan too early for harvest either. You prune for your ideal crop, and take the season as it comes from there on in. With the vines starting to shut down now the conversation has turned to a pruning plan - what yields are we growing for next year? how many buds should we keep? what are the fruit changes we are wanting in regards to the wines we are making? And ultimately, how to clear the work schedule ready for one of my favourite jobs - a few weeks of pruning! oh and what audiobooks will I get to listen to while enjoying the beautiful and quiet vineyard to myself...

2. The colour! 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
3. The other best bit about where we live - the wildlife!
4. Hadleigh absolutely loves harvest. This was his strategy for carrying as many boxes as the rest of us - A+ for creativity!
