When you make wines you naturally tend to be critical of them. This time, we can comfortably say – we made a wine and we nailed it. Six months making friends with seasoned American and French oak is the light touch this variety needs. We take from a single vineyard block on the prized red Cambrian soil of Mt.Camel. The wine pretty much makes itself.
Following the success of our 2015 Tempranillo – ‘Best Mediterranean wine’ 2016 Victorian Wine Show – we release our much anticipated next vintage. Heathcote has again rewarded us with rich purple fruits, dark cherry, light spice & supple tannins. It’s the wine we love, – each glass is easy, exciting, and super rewarding. One of those varieties that simply needs to be on your radar.
The Heathcote wine region is gaining traction for Mediterranean varieties – we are repeatedly seeing the results in the wines – of our suitability for these vines. As more producers craft regional Tempranillo, we are further convinced of the potential time and again. It is an exciting time, as we begin to understand that our ‘Shiraz-region’ has so much more to offer – as if it had not given us enough already! The success of our first vintage told us a great many things – we are on the right track, we just might have tamed a dark horse, and it is totally possible to be in gushy-love with a physical place.
